MY RESEARCH

I study the microbiomes of soil, how they respond and feedback to climate change, and their impact on soil, environment, and human health.

C-MĀIKI SYNERGY

Growing evidence indicates that soil functions are outcomes of groups of microbes interacting. I am enthusiastic about tackling the challenge of describing these interactions in the context of complex soil microbiomes and heterogeneous edaphic environments, aiming at understanding the connections between these tiny organisms and the big questions we face - climate change and One Health. Hawai'i's unique geography provides the perfect natural laboratory with diverse climates, soils, and biomes to answer these questions.

IMPACT TO HAWAII

Understanding how microbes interact to affect soil and ecosystem health informs predictions and potential actions addressing the vulnerability of Hawai'i's rich natural resources to climate change.
