MY RESEARCH
My research program predicts the movement of microscopic organisms using mathematical modeling and laboratory experiments. Recent interests include the effects of physical confinement on motile bacteria, their short-term movements at the individual level, and their long-term distribution at the population level.
C-MĀIKI SYNERGY
Our research offers a quantitative approach to elucidate the dynamics of complex microbial systems, such as the movement of bacteria in animal hosts and in soil. The work is highly interdisciplinary and has involved collaboration with research groups of Margaret McFall-Ngai and Nhu Nguyen.
IMPACT TO HAWAII
Our work involves participation of local students. A long-term goal of our research is to design nature-inspired robots for removing marine debris and other environmental causes for the benefit of Hawaii.
